young woman, flawless skin

Stay Forever Young

The collective desire to stay forever young has created an enormous market for anti-ageing treatments. Recent developments in laser technology are now delivering a longer-lasting and scientifically proven method of restoring the skin’s natural beauty.

Unlike traditional treatments such as dermabrasion and chemical peels, the unique characteristics of laser skin resurfacing allow more accurate and precise control over the treatment process.

Skin resurfacing and rejuvenation treatments

Skin resurfacing and rejuvenation treatments can be performed either in ablative modes with an Er:YAG laser or non-ablatively with an Nd:YAG laser, depending on the patient and practitioner’s particular aesthetic outcome wish to achieve.

In addition, ablative and non-ablative treatments can also be combined into a comprehensive anti-aging treatment, such as Fotona’s TwinLight Fractional Rejuvenation system. Past skin rejuvenation procedures treated large areas of skin, whether aged or not.

But with Fotona’s revolutionary TwinLight Fractional Rejuvenation method, the laser light precisely targets imperfections in the skin, leaving the surrounding healthy skin untouched.

The heat from the laser energy also stimulates the production of new collagen in the dermis, and the surrounding untreated skin helps speed the rejuvenation process.

A Simple and Effective 3-Step Solution

TwinLight Fractional Rejuvenation is a simple 3-step procedure optimised to significantly improve skin smoothness and give it a fresher, healthier look. The deep heating effect of the Fotona Nd:YAG laser beam helps rejuvenate and stimulate the skin, while the Er:YAG beam helps the body to form new, tighter skin.

anti aging treatment

Step 1Conditioning: A Nd:YAG beam is passed along the surface twice. The first pass provides a short stimulus to the skin, the second pass penetrates the tissue, causing deep FRAC3 heating and conditioning the skin for effective fractional treatment therapy.

Step 2Fractional therapy: Old, worn-out skin is ablated away by a fractional Er:YAG laser. The precise micro-ablated channels will be replaced with new, tighter and healthy tissue as new skin forms.

Step 3Peeling: The skin is ablated with a light full Er:YAG beam, which finishes the treatment and removes superficial imperfections.

Using fractional light to rejuvenate the skin can produce a perfectly graded effect to your patient’s expectations and offer a degree of control and efficacy that allows for highly precise skin sculpting.

Treatments can extend from light touch-ups to deep collagen remodelling, ideal for patients who want drastic rejuvenation effects but are not inclined towards aggressive surgical or chemical alternatives. This treatment is suitable for all skin types and tones, with minimal patient downtime.

A jowl lift does not always require surgery.  There are several methods for a non-surgical jowl lift that effectively tighten jowls with minimal downtime. These include filler for jowls, thread lifts, anti-wrinkle injection, and collagen induction treatments. How do you work out the best non-surgical facelift for jowl?  And when is it time for a surgical approach?  The answer depends on how advanced the jowl sagging is. Below is an outline of treatment options. However, the information is not in place of a doctor’s consultation.

Laser Treatments vs. Microneedling

There’s a big difference between laser treatments and microneedling and it all comes down to how the two treatments work. By design, lasers use light as energy. can be performed either in ablative modes with an Er: YAG laser or non-ablatively with  Nd: YAG laser, depending on the particular aesthetic outcome that the patient and practitioner wish to achieve. In addition, ablative and non-ablative treatments can also be combined into a comprehensive anti-aging treatment, such as Fotona’s TwinLight™ Fractional Rejuvenation system. This allows lasers to have a specific target to treat in the skin, such as broken red veins or brown spots, without damaging surrounding unaffected tissue. It’s a very selective treatment.

Microneedling is the mechanical method of creating thousands of tiny channels of injury all over a treatment area that force the skin to heal. The results are not selective to a specific problem, but you can see improvement in many issues by nature of causing collagen regeneration and skin turnover.

Both treatments are used to heal certain types of cosmetic concerns, such as acne scarring and rejuvenation.

Pros and cons of micro-needling?

Pros of microneedling include a relatively quick recovery time (about a day or two of a light sunburn appearance) and less potential side effects. It’s also safe to use on all skin types. The cons of microneedling are that the results are often subtle. It can take numerous microneedling treatment sessions to achieve the results you desire, and still, some conditions are best treated with a laser.

Pros and cons of laser treatments?

In the hands of an experienced physician, in Collins Laser Aesthetics is performed, or supervised by a doctor, using the Fotona technology,  laser treatments can often provide quicker, more dramatic, and long-lasting results than microneedling treatments. But with that greater reward comes greater risks. Because lasers deliver heat to the skin we see more side effects (such as temporary darkening or bruising) and 2-3 days  downtime due to post-treatment swelling and redness

Do you suggest trying one before the other?

If you’re looking to be more proactive about taking care of your skin, microneedling is a quick and easy way to do so without much risk. On the other hand, if you have a specific problem you would like to address, it may be the case that you are better suited for a laser treatment to meet your goals.

Can they be used effectively together?

Absolutely! We can target specific issues with a laser and then perform microneedling for all-over skin rejuvenation on the same day. Or, you can alternate treatments on a monthly basis or so. It all depends on what you are trying to address.
